Abhinav Kafare (b. 1990) is an Indian visual artist and photographer based in Tampere, Finland. His practice explores perception, the body, memory, and the shifting boundaries between the individual and the world around us. His work is shaped by an interest in how we see, recognise, and construct meaning, particularly when familiar forms and relationships become uncertain.
Working primarily with photography, Kafare explores proximity, fragmentation, surface, and visual association. He approaches the image as a way of discovering rather than confirming what is already known, allowing relationships between bodies, landscapes, objects, and spaces to shift. His practice extends into photobooks, collage, moving image, sound, and installation, where meaning emerges through relationships between images, materials, spaces, and the viewer.
His long-term project Armageddon was published as a photobook in Finland in 2025. The project was presented at Photographic Centre Nykyaika in Tampere and will be exhibited in Milan in 2026 and in Tampere and Helsinki in 2027. He is currently developing Still Here, a new photography project exploring memory, presence, and absence.
Kafare's work and projects have been featured in The Indian Express, Verve India, Homegrown Magazine, Hindustan Times, Sakal, Lokmat, and hākārā journal. His work was included in 108 Portraits of Indian Photography in 2024, and his practice has also included public art and installations at IIT Bombay and the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai.
